Senior Prom is what all students in their high school lives look forward to, other than graduation. Prom is a time to party and celebrate the end of your high school life with those closest to you, your friends.
At Fontbonne we all consider each other one big family, so for seniors who are graduating, it is so sad to be leaving your family to go off to college. Prom is a way for the seniors to make some of their last memories together, which they will hold onto for the rest of their lives.
So much time and effort is put into prom. Girls spend months looking for the perfect dress to wear and even post pictures of their dresses on Instagram to make sure that no one has the same dress as anyone. They also spend so many hours getting glammed up.
The seniors took part in this amazing event when they had their Senior Prom on May 19, 2023 at Current on Chelsea Pier 59. A lot of the girls showed up in limos and party buses with their dates and friends. Everyone looked spectacular in their dresses and tuxedos. The most common dress colors were silver, red, pink, green, and blue.
The music played at prom was a mix of rap and pop music. Some of the songs that were played were “We Found Love,” “I Wanna Dance with Somebody,” “Just Wanna Rock,” and “Despacito.” No matter what song was playing, everyone was dancing to the beat and singing at the top of their lungs.
Jennifer Sarji ‘23, talked about what was the most special part of prom and even rated her prom experience when she stated, “The most special part of prom is being with your date and really getting to know them as a person. Through dancing, eating, and talking with each other, we develop deeper connections, whether with our friends, teachers, or prom date. I would rate my prom experience a 10/10. Dancing, singing, and getting to bond with my prom date, teachers, and friends really made an experience of a lifetime that I will forever keep in my heart. The food was phenomenal and very flavorful.”
To start off the serving of food, appetizers such as pigs in a blanket and shrimp cocktails were given out. The first course for dinner was pasta primavera, which was made up of penne pasta with garden vegetables in a palomino pink tomato sauce with shaved parmigiano and basil crostini.
The entree served was called chicken milanese, which was described as being parmesan crusted chicken breast, with arugula salad and asparagus risotto, and covered in a parmesan tomato broth. To end off dinner, everyone was invited to the dessert table to make their own ice cream sundae and to the snack table to get some treats to that could be eaten there or taken home.
Ava Mollaghan ‘23, spoke about how amazing prom was for her when she exclaimed, “Prom was so much fun! From the beautiful venue, the wonderful food, and the great people I was with, I had an amazing time! Fontbonne did amazing!”
As a junior, I can’t wait for senior prom next year and to party with all my classmates. It was truly evident that Mr. Somma, Ms. Duggan, the students, and the parents put so much into making prom such a special event for the seniors, who will be graduating from Fontbonne soon and will be leaving for college in the fall.
