At the beginning of the year, Fontbonne Hall Academy hired a new Spanish teacher for the 2023-2024 school year. Mr. Loftus teaches Spanish 1, Spanish 2, Spanish, Spanish 3, and Spanish 3H.
His teaching style is inquiry-based, which means he asks questions to elicit the information from students rather than just stating the information. His favorite languages are English and, of course, Spanish.
He also teaches Spanish because he grew up in mostly Spanish-speaking neighborhoods and was heavily influenced by Spanish culture.
He attended St. John’s for his B.S. in Education and Spanish, and then NYU for his MA in Psychology.
In his first year in college, he was tutoring writing in the college writing center and his boss thought he was a natural and recommended that he major in education to become a teacher.
His favorite hobbies are “playing catch with my son, riding my Harley Davidson, cooking and baking.”
In his free time, Mr. Loftus loves to “hang out and play sports with my son, and when I'm not doing that, I'm probably riding around on my Harley.”
