That's a Wrap for the 2022-2023 Fontbonne Varsity Swim Season!

Kareena Joseph '23

Fontbonne Hall School sent seven qualifying swimmers to "A" Champs, also known as CHSAA, a two-day swimming championship held in Nassau Aquatic Center on Saturday, February 4, 2023, where they competed against 11 Catholic high schools in New York City.

Senior Day was held on the same day to commemorate the seniors from each Catholic high school who had devoted much time and effort to swimming. Lauren Polito, Sabrina Lockley, and Kareena Joseph (myself, the All-League Award Winner) were the Fontbonne Hall Academy seniors to whom we bid farewell and much luck in their future endeavors. To the team's surprise, Mr. Cleary and Mr. Petric made a visit and stayed for a while to cheer the girls on and give moral support.

Along with the Varsity Swim team finishing sixth overall, the girls' sportsmanship, and support from their coaches and teammates, the girls gave it their all, and we are proud of every one of them.

When asked how she felt about the overall season and Senior Day, Lauren Polito stated, "Being a member of Fontbonne's Varsity swimming team requires a lot of effort and devotion due to the six-month season. It might be a lot from Tuesday and Saturday practice … but it was a great experience. Senior Day was a beautiful event, and I will miss swimming with Fontbonne's Varsity Swimming Team, which I have been a part of since freshman year. Although the other seniors and I could not swim our sophomore year because of COVID-19, we all made the most of our time on the squad. Developing a particular relationship with our teammates and coaches this season has significantly influenced us seniors.”

After completing the two-day championship, the Varsity Swim team officially finished their six-month season and is now looking forward to what the 2023-2024 season has to bring them. Even though the swim season may be over, the team still has to look forward to their awards dinner on March 3, 2023, at Vesuvio's Restaurant.
